About
For many years I was, and I suppose, still am Dustbinman. Sporadic inane prattling for five or six years - photos of Glastonbury and the sea - travels and travails in the US. But now I'm firmly settled - I have a 'district'. It feels like home for the first time in a long time.
Then someone hacked into dustbinman.com and I got fed up with the whole thing, and to be honest, didn't really miss it.
There's a lot going on, so it would seem insane to start a new blog at this stage in life. Fundamentally, it's about where I live. I love this place, and nobody in the blogosphere seems to be taking responsibility for it. I'm in awe of the London Bloggers - there's so many good ones who've staked their claim to a particular patch. Greenwich Phantom, Deptford Dame, Deptford Misc are particular favourites - and even the non-specific ones still seem to be East or South-leaning - IanVisits, DiamondGeezer, Jane's London, Faded London, Caroline's Miscellany .. all superb general London Blogs. Although I travel to Deptford every day for work, I live firmly in the Hoxton/Islington/Haggerston/Dalston fringe. I think it's a lovely part of London, steeped in history and straddled, poked and prodded by the psychogeographer's psychogeographer on regular occasions. (And sporadically blogged about too.) But no-one's chronicling it day-to-day. Or, they might be. But not in the internet circles I hang out in. If you know otherwise, please tell me.
I hope in 15 or 20 years, if my boy ever wonders about his roots, there'll be something borne of this blog that will be of interest. Maybe. If I can get my act together and actually write some stuff.
I must remember to take my camera with me.
